The Xbox / Bethesda merger is good news. At Bethesda's current pace the next mainline Fallout game will release near the end of this decade, Xbox isn't going to wait that long to leverage such a popular IP. Which means we are likely getting a spin-off / non-numbered game by another studio in the next few years. Fallout 76 was a disaster which means it won't be GaaS shit either.
I've heard this a lot on the internet, I guess people are hoping for New Vegas 2 now that Microsoft owns Both Bethesda and Obsidian. But I'm not gonna get my hopes up just yet since Obsidian's most recent games have been cringefests full of SJW shit. But I guess we just have to wait and see, maybe another miracle will happen as it did with NV.
I think "New Vegas 2" is unlikely, Most of Obsidian is working on Avowed and Josh Sawyer is working on some meme project (which isn't NV2). And I think Obsidian is still interested in making another Outer Worlds game and growing that into a franchise. So I think it will probably fall upon inXile to make the next Fallout game.
Yeah, even if they were to get the same guys together I doubt they would make an actual sequel to NV (not that it needs one anyway imo). Plus it doesn't help that Avellone got fucking cancelled recently.>inXile
That's Brian Fargo's company right? Would be pretty based if it actually happens, but idk how much incentive they have to attempt appealing to old fans since the Bethesda games have been a lot more profitable than 1/2/NV.
New Vegas already had its fair share of SJW bullshit writing though. It wasn't quite as in your face but it was definitely there.
there hasnt been hope for decades.
Was there that much? Haven't played it in a while but all I can remember personally is Arcade Gannon being gay. But I wouldn't call that SJW since it's only a small thing and doesn't define him entirely like it usually is with gay characters. Plus you can literally just murder him or sell him into slavery if you feel like owning le libs or whatever.
Fuck, I don't have that one screencapped thread over a former microsoft game studios employee with me right now.
Basically, he worked on Ryse and talked about how horrible microshit is. They make a big enphasis on "killing" other competing game franchises. For example, Kameo old X360 release game
only got developed because microshit execs were told that it was going to be the "Zelda killer". You can see a clear similarities between the 2 games. Another example: Kinect and the shitty avatars it brought only got developed to compete directly with Nintendo's Miis on the Wii
Anons seem to have a completely outdated idea of Xbox because they've been dormant for so long. The most recent thing here is Lionhead closing and that was five years ago. In that span of time the leadership has completely changed hands and they've bought a bunch of studios.
>Bethesda will be dedders in less than a decade. Either that, or they'll churn out tons of crappy games before going bankrupt.
Xbox is making a ton of money right now and they haven't even started releasing the triple A games in the pipeline. They aren't going anywhere.
You didn't like New Vegas?

I didn't tbh. I thought it was incredibly over hyped. Had all the same issues Fall Out 3 had, more serious bugs than 3 had, the survival/eating stuff seemed cool but it was really just tedious. The only plus side to NV is that the story was more open ended but I couldn't get into it enough to give a shit.>just install 3-10 mods and it's great anon
Contrarianism isn't a personality
do you even see pic in >>953
from that alone, does that Look like a good game?>shitty, horrible textures>boring monotone color palette>clunky models
their art direction was so fucked.
the clunkiest 1st/3rd shooter mechanics too
>>958>the clunkiest 1st/3rd shooter mechanics too
This is why I'm such a contrarian to rebut >>956
. They made a shooter where it's literally not fun to shoot things.
I think that format, despite all the problems, has its advantages. The main thing I prefer in 3D Fallout is that there's a lot more versatility in character builds, as opposed to 1/2 where you're basically fucked if you don't choose Small Guns/Sneak/Lockpick. And a lot of the problems can be fixed with modding but as that one anon said it's not really an ideal solution.>>958
You'd be surprised at how much better the game looks with a simple mod to remove the yellow piss filter. No idea why used that. Same shit in FO3 with the green filter.
Speaking of Underrail how is that game? I hear a lot of people calling it "the real Fallout 3"
idk bout that
it's fun so far, bout 12 hours in.
kinda hit a wall because it looks like my psi isn't good enough.
the dev intended for you to get experience by exploring and finding little out of the way items like how you'd get bonus xp in deus ex for finding hidden rooms and passages. you can play it that way but you can optionally pick to get experience from fights.
I picked the former option and I must just need to do some explorin cause right now some of the fights are really wreckin my ass.
Anyway, definite classic crpg vibes if you're into that kind of thing but I'm not far enough in to really definitely say oh yeah this is what fallout 3 was supposed to be.
how is it difficulty-wise?
t. guy who fucking sucks at old CRPG games
it's hard, like I said I was stuck for a bit there. looks like I was going to an area that was over leveled for me. I went to do some other quests and got some xp and some perks.
looks like you just have to keep your wits about you and not always try to brute force stuff.
It's mostly dialogue shit with a lot of the womyn characters being stronk and obnoxious as fuck. You can overlook it pretty easily, but the point I was making is that the seeds were already planted back then, it only ever gets worse when it comes to big name devs, especially when they get eaten by corporations like M$ or EA.
Eh, might try it out sometime I guess. Honestly my main problem with CRPGs is fucking up the character build at the start so I'll just be sure to look up some tips before starting.
Oh yeah, I decided to play through Fallout 1 again and found this project:https://github.com/rotators/Fo1in2
Basically it ports the whole game into the Fallout 2 engine with all the newer features and bugfixes plus some other optional shit you can tweak in the ini.
That's the one that basically Fallout but in Russia right? I've been meaning to try that out sometime, but I will say that isometric games in 3D look a little strange to me tbh.
There's also a Russian fan-game called Fallout of Nevada that I've been meaning to try, apparently it's bretty good but idk.
I had a dream the other night that a version of Fallout New Vegas existed but in the style of the OG Fallout games. The Strip was amazing, it gave the same feeling as like New Reno in that you got this real big city vibe. The models were all clean and pristine and it had 9 separate areas.
But the dream got me thinking, there are tons of modders that make mods for old retro gaymes. Sometimes its literally just one guy and they are release mods that are the scope of a full game. So if one guy can do that why couldnt some of these companies put together games in the old school style with just a small dev team ? Release them at a target price of like 20 dollars in a digital form.
I think a lot of people want an isometric version of NV since there's a lot of fan art. I don't mind the game we got though, was pretty good considering they only got 18 months of development time and had to work with recycled FO3 assets.>So if one guy can do that why couldnt some of these companies put together games in the old school style with just a small dev team ?
I guess because modders do it out of passion rather than for profit, and there isn't as much profit to be made in that style of game these days. Plus even when it does happen it's usually shit (look at most of Obsidian's games post NV for example).
Yeah, Nv is a great game. Obsidian was literally setup to fail and they made something far better than anything Bethesda has released since Morrowind.
>there isn't as much profit to be made in that style of game these days
Yeah I dont deny that its a niche market but thats why they develop with a $20 price point in mind. Also I feel like a lot of people like playing older games but often times console backwards compatibility makes it hard. I think if some game company started throwing out feelers for a retro style digital market they would get positive feedback. All Zoomers need is to see one of their favorite streamers to stream it and the game will take off.>>1199
I have heard of Wasteland 3. From what I have seen of it I don't think it qualifies as a "small retro" game. Seems more like a game with an actual budget and a $60 release.
I was thinking something more along the lines of UnderRail. I have seen in on sale a number of times below 10 dollars and have heard all positive things from it. The main thing is I hate that high saturated pixel art that all "le indie devs" seem to use, it really turns me off from a game.
>>1201>>1201> started throwing out feelers for a retro style digital market they would get positive feedback
I've thought square should do that with final fantasy. alternate their big budget releases with something akin to ff4-6 in terms of graphics but with a large scope and some endgame content and people would eat that shit up.
especially if they could do a cheaper shorter dev cycle and release cross platform, pc, mobile, switch, etc it'd fund their big budget titles and they wouldn't spend years between ff15 and ff7r just blowing money
yeah, this I guess, but not a 3ds exclusive…
idgaf either way I'm just speaking purely from a pragmatic standpoint
like octopath, if they put bravely default on steam even a year after release it'd be huge on there
Octopath was on Steam? Might pirate that shit sometime if it wasn't using denuvo faggotry
yeh last summer i think wanna play it too but yea
