did u know theyre charging like $1200+ for mexican fenders now?

solution
>buy an high end squier for $500
>swap bridge pickup out for custom-made one
>?????
>save like $700
suck my fuckin dick jose
learn your place

shit sounds better too like fuck i was just playing one of the nu 2023 from the cali plant so muh USA made yim jazzmasters and it was fucking garbage i couldnt even believe it. even worse it had a custom floating bridge instead of the usual, actually good, jazzmaster one. like yah thx bro i really wanted MORE tuning issues thas totes why im buying a new guitar
straight up squier jazzmaster from fucking indonesia was less of a bear to play
is the cali fender plant just garbage now? i saw this other yim guitar too and it was awful it was a jazzmaster with these 3 humbuckers dressed-up as """"goldfoils"""" and it had a fucking BIGSBY tremolo. made me throw up in my mouth a lil tbph. 14 hundred bucks too lik gtfo outta here

why do they even charge so much for cloning 1960's technology and sound in the first place?

using extremely anal audiophile quality parts and tolerances that didn't even exist in the 60's no less.

>why do they even charge so much for cloning 1960's technology and sound in the first place?
dude i know
its even worse with goldfoil pickups specifically. they arent even actual alnico. theyre rubberized fridge magnets. the entire reason they came into being in the first place is cuz some japanese guy in the 60s figured he could cheap out on the most expensive part. then sell them unassembled to sears so they could flip em for like 60 bucks as a hobby project kinda brilliant on his part tbh
its literally the opposite of expensive/difficult to make. just no one does now. you either buy 60yr old junk and pray, or buy it handmade from some nerd in his bedroom

>using extremely anal audiophile quality parts and tolerances that didn't even exist in the 60's no less

thats the part they seemingly dont understand at all. the reason those old pickups were good was BECAUSE theyre cheap junk that literally rattles inside the casing and feedsback/distorts on its own. you just have to reign em in one way or another i use a cheap MXR super comp and the guitars tone/volume knobs
but if you make em with any degree of care then they not only sonically STOMP all competition, but are like 1/10th the cost to produce too

when i saw that USA-made jazzmaster (picrel) earlier with the nu-vintage """"goldfoil pickups""""" that were ACTUALLY humbuckers i nearly lost it. look at this fucking thing. abomination tier. the fact that humbuckers are quite literally the OPPOSITE of what goldfoil pickups are is just icing on the cake.
14 hundred. might as well cut my own dick off
the bigsby rly sets me off too. the ENTIRE point of the OG jazzmaster was re-designing the tremolo to be reliable tuning-wise and/or unobtrusive.
but nah, for your neo-vintage re-issue guitar that never existed, just slap a glorified bedspring on that shit. oh u dont wanna smack your hand into it every 5secs or have to offer blood penance every night to stay in tune? too fucking bad bro that shits ON there

to me it kinda seems some company (likely chinese at this point) should come along and do 1:1 clones of old guitars without all the fancy ricer nonsense and sell them for reasonable prices. just don't directly call them what they are clones of so the collectorfags dont get too butthurt.

probably could do the same with (tube based) guitar amps, which are stupidly overpriced too. the old stuff isn't very complicated circuit-wise and the chinese could churn out suitable tubes cheaply enough if they wanted to. i mean the imperfections are what gave the old amps their sound in the first place.

 No.1598022

>>1598015
thing is you dont want a lot of that stuff 1:1 cuz it actually sucks ass and will fuck out on you like every other night. you just try to mitigate or utilize the noisiness, and fucking put up with it cuz theres just no other way to make it sound like that

theres a reason a TON of records use these old cheap thangs on recordings for overdubs, but you NEVER see anyone take a big stage with them unless they got em custom-made. if the pickups are un-potted theyre highly microphonic. almost unmanageably so. on a big PA youll pick up all kindsa wacky shit like radio stations, peoples cellphones, shitty old wiring, the creaking sounds of your guitars hardware etc
to say nothing of the nigh unusable horrific screeching feedback when amplified for a large stage

but yea
its not like this is complex engineering. and theres some very ez ways to modernize the designs so you can actually use them live. just no one does on a factory level and you have to buy em custom
funniest thing to me is everyone buying these super expensive guitars w humbuckers then like 30 pedals to run it through to try and get a certain sound
MBV is a great ex. dudes whole career is a cheap 80s yamaha reverse delay and strumming while lightly holding the tremolo bar. yet hipsters out there spending thousands and thousands chasing ghosts

I paid $500 for a (2008ish) Classic Player (now called Vintera) Jaguar HH in Olympic White like six years ago. Could never afford that kind of quality today with these prices, it's insane. A used CP Jaguar costs nearly as much as a new Vintera. What the actual fuck.

It is noticeably nicer than the high end Squiers, but Fender doesn't understand their own instruments so I had to modify it to make it actually playable.

The closer-to-the-bridge vibrato on the CP/Vintera is a nice upgrade, but the Gibson style bridge is a fucking piece of shit, the vibrato doesn't work right with it and won't stay in tune. Replaced it with a Staytrem bridge and it is absolute magic. Modifying a Mustang bridge was also a thing too I think, it works really well. I also got the Staytrem vibrato arm, and it's WAY better than any Fender vibrato arm.

Oh, and I also replaced the pick ups (which are really nice already) with some old DiMarzio Dual Sounds. With my small little 22w Mesa amp it's an absolute badass setup. Don't need any stompboxes.

Also: Hagstrom. Quit sleeping on them people.>>1597990

was playing one of those actually
def nicer feel
also literally a grand. mexican. 1k. no thx
i think theyre more like 1200 brand new

>Fender doesn't understand their own instruments

i noticed that too lol
saw several JMs and jags that either didnt even have the extra volume and tone circuit, or just had shit wired up as whatever
sux too cuz thats the entire reason im mounting a yim pickup in a JM to begin with. the dual circuits let you set two different volume/tone configs, which you need since foils are slightly lower output and MUCH more unruly

tbf tho ive almost never seen anyone actually use any of the switches or even know what theyre supposed to do. most often youll see ppl confused lol i was too and have the second circuit set down to 0 and think its supposed to be a kill switch. which works fine obviously, and IS helpful esp if you switch instruments a lot. but it kinda misses the point

>Also: Hagstrom

the soapbar ones? picrel?
im prolly gonna swap the neck one too at some point and the price is right so i might

you can definitely do weird stuff. if you use a rly long cord itll act as an antennae and youll often ime pick up radio stations ANYWAYS, even on practice/combo amps. gotta make sure you dont have a phone in your front pocket too
and theyre ridiculously dynamic so weird little noises like you scraping or rubbing the string, or more annoyingly your belt buckle hitting the back of your guitar, will come out as clear as any other note
hell you can literally just scream into them
it adds a lot of shitty variables if you gig a lot tho cuz theyre actual fucking garbage. like one thing i always used to have to do is ALWAYS make sure my guitar was perpendicular to my amp. if you dont, it just starts screaming.

another odd thing you wouldnt think of is that you now need to carry a compass in your guitar case. if for whatever reason you need to move or remove the pickups, the shitty fridge magnets will usually just fall out. if you dont make 100% sure youre putting them back in aligned with one another, youll kill the sound completely
this has actually worked to my advantage a few times as i used to be able to get """broken""" guitars from pawnshops for like 20 bucks, go home, take the pickups off, rotate one of the magnets 90 degrees, et voila. gud as new
fuckin magnets amirite?

>also literally a grand. mexican. 1k. no thx

I would probably buy one again if I want a Jag/JM, excluding the Squier Signature JMJM

>the dual circuits let you set two different volume/tone configs

In regards to my guitar: I thought about modifying that back onto my guitar, which the HHs don't have, they have a kill switch instead. But I don't see myself using that. The high cut toggle accomplishes basically the same thing for way less effort. Same with the coil blending.

>but it kinda misses the point

Also in regards to my guitar in particular: The kill switch is far more usable in reality. I think there's a reason nobody used the lead/rhythm circuit stuff. At least in my case, where I mostly play heavier sounding stuff, the kill switch is basically required for when you're not playing due to feedback.

>the soapbar ones? picrel?

No just Hagstrom instruments in general. I have a reissue (Made in China) Viking and I love it. Despite being MIC they are not using outsourced parts, so the quality is borderline as good as my MIM Jaguar.
Vintage Swedes are awesome, I still want one but I don't play enough to justify buying one.
